We decided to bomb it down to the Bay Area to catch Gcor and Seymo before they moved out of the Crystal Palace (an artwork of a house, filled with artwork, made of glass and steel). The drive was long. HQ went bonkers after just 2 hours...luckily we found a rest stop with a "Pet Area" so that she could run around and do pushups for a bit. After a while it was calming for both of us to see the landscape change gradually, from high desert to cindercone alley, wooded mountains of NoCal to the gilded hills of Sac Valley. Besides, running in the sparkly late afternoon sunshine was well worth the drive.
We also managed to have a yummy Thai meal with Brooke and Steve (so dubbed circa 2006 by Rico), and their adorable blue-eyed baby. So good to catch up with them after nearly 2 years. The drive into the big city was also lots of fun: Caballero enjoyed jockeying through the late afternoon traffic, and HQ relished the sight of the old brownstones with gaily painted gables and gingerbread trim.
After a rousing game of Mexican bean poker (to his chagrin, Caballero was the first one out), we had another night of good long sleep. It is with honor yet great sadness that we are the last guests of Queen Gcor and King Seymo in the Crystal Palace.
